Posted on May 7, 2013 | 6:33 PM

Filipino Joseph Apostol has made it to the battle rounds of The Voice UK after wowing the judges during the blind auditions. The 21-year-old from Kent, England sang Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow in his auditions and caught the attention of judges Jessie J and Sir Tom Jones.

Joseph Apostol enters the next round of The Voice UK

Both Jessie J and Sir Tom Jones, who pressed their 'I Want You' buttons for Joseph wanted the Filipino to be in their respective teams but in the end, Joseph chose to join Sir Tom Jones' team. Joseph's mother, who is backstage supporting her son, also wanted Joseph to choose Tom Jones.

Judge Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, though did not turn his chair for Joseph, got excited upon learning that Joseph is a Filipino. Will then talked about his Fil-Am bestfriend Apl.de.Ap (who is also a judge in our local version of The Voice) and other Pinoy stuffs such as chicken adobo and pancit. The other judge of The Voice UK is Danny O'Donoghue of Irish band The Script, who has been linked recently with Janine Tugonon.

Joseph Apostol moved to the UK when he was 10 years old when his mother was hired as a nurse. Watch below the full audition video of Joseph Apostol in The Voice UK.

'The Voice of the Philippines' Airs June 2013; Coaches Now Ready for Blind Auditions

Posted on April 13, 2013 | 10:08 AM

It’s the voice, not the looks or backstories, that will determine the next singing superstar in the highly anticipated singing competition “The Voice of the Philippines” airing this June on ABS-CBN with top caliber singers who have made their mark in the local and international music scenes as coaches who will mentor the aspiring singers or artists.

The Voice of the Philippines Coaches: Lea Salonga, Bamboo, Sarah Geronimo and Apl.de.ap

“The Voice of the Philippines,” to be hosted by multimedia star Toni Gonzaga with Robi Domingo as social media correspondent, proved to be a unique format with its “blind auditions,” where hopefuls will audition by singing on stage with the coaches facing against them.

It will not only have the artists competing in the show, but also the coaches who will go against one another in picking the best artists for their teams as early as the auditions round.

ABS-CBN has announced that Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo, Rock Superstar Bamboo, Broadway Diva Lea Salonga, and international hiphop sensation Apl De Ap will sit on the coaches’ chairs of “The Voice of the Philippines.”

The coaches’ first task is to pick who among artists they want to be part of their respective teams. The selection process begins during the blind auditions where they will evaluate the artists’ performances based on the voices they hear and if they would like to mentor a particular artist, they must press the button that will trigger their swiveling coaches’ chair to turn to the stage and get to see the artist in person.

In the event that more than two or more coaches chose a particular artist, the coaches will have to sell themselves to the artist and convince him or her to pick them as coach.

After choosing members of their teams, the coaches will start to mentor and train their artists.  They will pit two of their own team members in the second round called the “battle rounds,” or a do or die match between the two artists who must give it their all to please their coach.  And in the end, the coaches’ chosen artists will advance to the next round of the competition— the live performance shows.

Viewers will then step in the scene and can save their favorites from elimination by voting. In the end, each coach will have one star artist left to compete against the other team’s finalists and the last one standing will be named “The Voice of the Philippines.”

ABS-CBN bagged the exclusive rights to air and adapt the worldwide hit franchise from Dutch-based Talpa Media Group and joins 40 other countries around the world that localized it on TV, including the more popular US version of “The Voice” hosted by Carson Daly with Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton as coaches.

Who will be part of Team Sarah, Team Bamboo, Team Lea, and Team Apl? Watch out for “The Voice of the Philippines” airing this June on ABS-CBN. For updates, log on to www.thevoice.abs-cbn.com, like our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/thevoiceabscbn , orfollow @thevoiceabscbn on Twitter.

Toni Gonzaga and Robi Domingo, Hosts of 'The Voice Philippines'

Posted on January 20, 2013 | 11:52 AM

Multimedia star Toni Gonzaga and PBB Teens alumnus Robi Domingo will be hosting the The Voice Philippines, ABS-CBN's newest reality singing competition which will soon hit Philippine television.

Toni Gonzaga and Robi Domingo, Hosts of 'The Voice Philippines'

The pre-screenings and radio auditions have already started for The Voice PH and according to reports, the show will be airing in June after Pilipinas Got Talent Season 4 finale. Although the coaches/judges for the show are not yet finalized, Robi and Toni hosting the show is now a go amid all the rumors and speculations. In fact, the two had already their pictorial and teaser shoot.

Toni Gonzaga and Robi Domingo are perfect choices to host  the Philippine version of The Voice. Having worked together in two PBB editions as hosts, there's no need to work out the chemistry between the two.

Toni Gonzaga is one of the most effective hosts in the country and has proven her brilliance in hosting whether it's a reality show (Pinoy Big Brother, Pinoy Dream Academy), a showbiz-oriented talk show (E-Live, The Buzz) or a variety show (Eat Bulaga, MRS, ASAP, Happy Yipee Yehey!).

Robi Domingo, on the other hand, is one who will definitely follow the footsteps of Luis Manzano when it comes to hosting being trained in two PBB editions (Unlimited and Teen Edition 4), MYX as one of its former VJs, ASAP chill-out and Sarah G Live. Robi is also one of the hosts of I Dare You (Season 2).

Are you excited for The Voice Philippines? Who do you think will be the four judges/coaches?

Cheesa Laureta Eliminated from 'The Voice 2'

Posted on April 25, 2012 | 11:24 AM

Filipino-American Cheesa Laureta's journey on The Voice Season 2 ended tonight, April 24 (April 25 in Manila) after not getting enough votes for her to stay in the competition.

In team Cee Lo, contestant Jamar Rogers got America's save votes so it all comes down to Juliet Simms and Cheesa  Laureta. The two ladies battle it out for the save, performing for their mentor's approval. Unfortunately, Cee Lo Green had to let go of Cheesa, saving Juliet

Cheesa Laureta sang Already Gone but the coaches noted that her performance was a little pitchy except during the last notes, which she hit so it was an unbalanced performance. Meanwhile, Juliet Simms performed Natalie Imbruglia's Torn where she showed restraint and variety, leading Cee Lo to save this season's rock chick.

Meanwhile, in Adam Levine's team, it was Mathai who got eliminated leaving Tony Lucca and Katrina Parker in the competition for next week's semi-finals.

Cheesa Laureta Survives Instant Elims but to Face America's Votes on 'The Voice 2'

Posted on April 24, 2012 | 6:58 PM

Filipino-American Cheesa Laureta survived the instant elimination on the US talent search The Voice on Monday, April 23 (April 24 in Manila) with her powerful rendition of Whitney Houston's I Have Nothing.

Cee Lo Green picked James Massone  to be eliminated from his team after his lackluster performance of Billy Joel's Just The Way You Are while Adam Levine let go of Pip who sang Keane's Somewhere Only We Know.

Cheesa Laureta will now have to face America's vote, the results of which will be announced live on Tuesday night, April 24 (morning of April 25 in Manila).

Last week, Laureta landed on the bottom three of Team Cee Lo based on votes and had to be saved by mentor Cee Lo Green to move on in the competition.

Cheesa described being in the bottom three as a "life-changing experience" and promised to improve her game by picking I Have Nothing as her song for this week which she claimed she's very comfortable with being able to slay it even she was a little girl.

The judges praised her performance, with singer Christina Aguilera saying she is proud that Laureta went for it. Mentor Cee Lo Green was obviously pleased by his protege, saying she did a wonderful job. "It's time to start investing on the next powerhouse singer," he told Cheesa.

Cheesa Laureta dedicated her performance to her brother Troy, who was with her backstage.

Pinay Cheesa Laureta in 'The Voice' Top 24

Posted on April 11, 2012 | 8:27 AM

Full-blooded Pinay Cheesa Laureta is making waves in the second season of hit US singing competition “The Voice” as she makes it to the top 24 finalists under the mentorship of rapper Cee Lo Green.

Watch her pursue her dream on becoming the next Filipino international singing sensation every Saturday, 5:30 PM, on Studio 23 with a replay every Monday at 7 PM.

Cheesa, who was born and raised in Hawaii, is set to compete with finalists coming from the teams of other celebrity musician coaches namely Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, and Blake Shalton. Carson Daly hosts this worldwide phenomenal hit show with Christiana Milian as the new social media correspondent.

“The Voice” is a unique singing competition where auditions are based solely on vocal ability. In the first stage called the ‘blind auditions,’ all four coaches must listen to the artist without facing him or her and must press their respective buttons if they want the artist to be part of the team they will mentor. Hitting the button will also trigger the coach’s chairs to swivel so that the coach can finally see the face behind the voice.

This season, the coaches get to choose 12 contestants each to form their respective teams. They will then dedicate themselves to develop their singers via mentoring and will pit two of their own team members in the second round called the ‘battle phase.’

After the vocal face-off, the coach must then choose who among the two singers will advance. Those who will survive in the battle rounds will proceed to the third stage— the live performance shows— wherein viewers can save them from elimination by voting.

In the end, each coach will have one star artist left to compete against the other team’s finalists and the last one standing will be named “The Voice.” The winner will receive a recording contract as a grand prize.
Aside from the much talked about singing competition from the US, Studio 23 has also started airing the much-talked about eighth and final season of the hit TV drama series “Desperate Housewives” and eighth season of “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Watch the intense happenings in the lives of the world-renowned housewives of Wysteria Lane. What will happen after Carlos murdered Gaby’s evil stepfather? How will Susan, Gaby, Bree, and Lynette’s cover up take its toll on them?

If “Desperate Housewives” will finally bid goodbye, the rumored to be final season of “Grey’s Anatomy” may have hopes of being extended after producer Shonda Rhimes said she plans to continue the show regardless of whether original cast members will return. Speculations on the show’s demise were roused due to the unclear contract renewals of its lead stars Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers, Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson.

Don’t miss the “The Voice 2” every Saturday, 5:30 PM with a replay on Mondays at 7 PM. Watch “Grey’s Anatomy” every Thursday at 7 PM, back-to-back with “Desperate Housewives” at 8 PM only on Studio 23
