Eugene Domingo Nominated in 8th Asian Film Awards 2014

Actress Eugene Domingo is nominated in the Best Actress category of the 8th Asian Film Awards 2014 for her performance in the movie Barber's Tales, which also gave her the Best Actress trophy at the 2013 Tokyo International Film Festival.

Eugene Domingo, the lone Filipino nominee in this year's awards, will be up against Han Hyo-joo (Cold Eyes, South Korea), Paw Hee Ching (Rigor Mortis, Hong Kong), Yoko Maki (The Ravine of Goodbye, Hong Kong), at Zhang Zi Yi (The Grandmaster, Hong Kong/Mainland China) for the award.

This is the second time that the Pinay comedienne was nominated in the Asian Film Awards which is dubbed as the Asian Oscars. In 2012, Eugene was nominated for Best Actress at the 6th Asian Film Awards for her role in Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank. She bagged then the People's Choice Award for Best Actress while compatriot Shamaine Beuncamino won Best Supporting Actress for Niño.

Last year, Nora Aunor and Eddie Garcia took home the top acting honors from the same award-giving body, for Thy Womb and Bwakaw, respectively, marking the first time that the Philippines bagged both the Best Actor and Best Actress awards in Asian Film Awards.

Gina Pareño is the first Filipino to win an award in the said Hong Kong based award-giving body, bagging the Best Supporting Actress trophy in 2009 for her performance in Brillante Mendoza‘s Serbis.

The 8th Asian Film Awards 2014 awarding ceremony will be held on March 27, 2014 at the City of Dreams Casino Resort in Macau.

Nora Aunor, Eddie Garcia Win Top Acting Plums at the 7th Asian Film Awards (2013)

Nora Aunor and Eddie Garcia won top acting awards at the 7th Asian Film Awards held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on Monday, March 18 after their respective wins in the 6th Asia Pacific Screen Awards and the 55th Asia Pacific Film Festival.

Nora Aunor was hailed Best Actress for her performance in the internationally-acclaimed Thy Womb helmed by Brillante Mendoza while Eddie Garcia won Best Actor for his role in Bwakaw, the Philippines' official entry to the 2013 Oscars.

Nora bested the likes of Cho Min-soo (South Korea), Golshifteh Farahani (Afghanistan), Gwei Lun-Mei (Taiwan), and Hao Lei (China) for the award while Eddie Garcia, who also won People's Choice for Best Actor beat other nominees for Best Actor Joseph Chang (Taiwan), Choi Min-sik (South Korea), Tony Leung Ka-fai (Hong Kong), and Liu Ye (China).

Last year, Eugene Domingo (Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank) won People's Choice for Best Actress in the 6th edition of the Asian Film Awards. Shamaine Buencamino, meanwhile, bagged the Best Supporting Actress in the same edition.

Eugene Domingo, Shamaine Buencamino Won in Asian Film Awards

Actress Eugene Domingo won the People's Choice Best Actress Award at the 6th Asian Film Awards 2012 held in Hong Kong on Monday, March 19. Eugene was voted by fans for her performance in the film Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank (The Woman in the Septic Tank).


Meanwhile, another Filipina won in the said event which is dubbed as the Asian Oscars. Noni Buencamino's other half, Shamaine Buencamino brought home for the country the Best Supporting Actress trophy for her outstanding performance in the film Niño, a film about a family being torn apart by financial problems.

Congratulations to both Eugene and Shamaine for bringing another honor to the Philippines!
